La Fura dels Baus’ avant-garde and eye-popping production of Wagner’s DAS RHEINGOLD will be the first of eight operas to be shown at the Cedar Lee Theatre throughout the summer. DAS RHEINGOLD will be shown Wednesday, 13th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, May 17th at 2:00 PM and is an experience not to be missed.
In the words of the prestigious German weekly Die Zeit, this production of DAS RHEINGOLD by La Fura dels Baus “quite possibly shows us the path that musical theater will be taking in the future.” There’s no doubt about it: the city of Valencia is setting new accents in 21st-century opera not only with its spectacular new theater designed by Santiago Calatrava, but with its visually transfixing production of Wagner’s Ring, staged by Carlos Padrissa and his theater group La Fura dels Baus. The Barcelona-based Fura blends music, dance, acrobatics and technology into unforgettable stage events of sometimes raw but always captivating power.
The other operas in the series include: HANSEL UND GRETEL from the 2008 Glyndebourne Festival on May 27th and 31st; La Scala’s production of VIAGGIO A REIMS on June 10th and 14th; Glynebourne’s GIULIO CESARE on June 24th and 28th; EUGENE ONEGIN from the Opera de Paris on July 8th and 12th; I PURITANI from Teatro Comunale di Bologna on July 22nd and 26th; LADY MACBETH OF THE MTSENSK DISTRICT from Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on August 5th and 9th; and BENVENUTO CELLINI from the 2008 Salzburg Festival on August 19th and 23rd.
Tickets to ballet performances are $15. Tickets to opera performances are $20.
