Richard Gildenmeister
In celebration of his 50th anniversary
as Shaker Square's master bookseller.

Jane Campbell
Cleveland's Mayor (2001-2005) who lived near the Square and worked for it for years.

Carole Grady
Retired late in 2005 after more than 25 years serving SHAD (Shaker Square Area Development Corporation).

Kenneth L. Johnson
Our Ward 4 Cleveland City Councilman since 1980.

Dr. Gene Veronesi
President of Shaker Square Beverages, on the Square longer than any other establishment.

Jonathan Forman and Norman Barr
Their Shaker Square Cinemas is one of the special places on the Square.

Reid Robbins  1951-2007
Executive Director of the Shaker Square Area Development Corporation for 15 years. SHAD named their building in his honor

Donita Anderson
Director, North Union Farmers Market
For years she has helped make Saturday mornings on the Square a place to be.

Carol Lowenthal
Founder of our newspaper The Connection and a long-term trustee and leader of SHAD and before SHAD, Friends of Shaker Square.

Mary Ann Kovach
Stepping aside after four years as president of SHAD, our Shaker Square Area Development Corporation.
 


Where Are They Now? (June 2024)

These old web pages ─ some go back to 2005 ─ have been revised for easier reading, with no changes to their text. Where are our Citizens now?  Here's what I found online.

  • Richard Gildenmeister died in December 2020

  • Jane Campbell is working in Washington, DC

  • Carole Grady returned to Cleveland, worked for SHAD for six more years, retired in February 2022, and died in July 2023.

  • Kenneth Johnson is incarcerated at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Learn more

  • Gene Veronesi owns Shaker Wines in the Van Aken District

  • Shaker Square Cinemas closed in January 2019 after 18 years. Atlas Cinemas took over.  Jonathan Forman continues to own Cleveland Cinemas. Norman Barr died in June 2021.

  • Donita Anderson is Executive Director of North Union Farmers Market which now operates at nine locations.

  • Carol Lowenthal lives near Shaker Square.
